New Park in Sosua in Honour of Jewish Community
Construction of a park in honor of the Jewish community

The mayor of Sosúa Ilana Neumann has made the symbolic 'turn of the spade' to start of the construction of a park at the end of Calle Sin Salida (one way street). This park will be created in honor of the Jewish pioneers, who, at the beginning of the 2nd World War II came to Sosúa.
At the celebration the city councils of the community, representatives of the Jewish community and business people were present. In her speech, the Mayor recalled the enrichment, which was the Jewish community for the beach town, where she named Productos Sosúa as an example. A Dairy and meat plant which has created a lot of jobs for the population. Next came Juan Perdomo, as an important business man, he spoke a few words about the future plans of Sosúa. The beach town has to become the Cultural Center of the North Coast to attract the people again.On behalf of the Jewish colony, Freddy Mill thanked the Mayor for this lovely park and said that the Jewish community owes much thanks to the Dominican community.

For the adoption of the Jewish refugees more than 600 people have escaped their certain death. The park was designed by Norberto Mota, an architect who was born and raised in Sosúa. There will be created a car parking, a restaurant, gardens, and a terrace surrounded with safety glass. The terrace has a magnificent view over the bay and Mount Isabel de Torres in Puerto Plata. The creation of the park will cost approximately eleven million pesos, which is expected to be ready in three months.
